CHAPTER-10 DATA COMMUNICATION AND COMPUTER NETWORK
Telecommunications
Telecommunications refers to the exchange of information by electronic and electrical means over a significant distance. A transmitter and a receiver is required in telecommunication .
Telecommunications devices include telephones, telegraph, radio etc.
Telecommunications is also known as telecom.
Types of Telecommunication:-
1. Audio Communication
Audio communication is any form of transmission that is based on hearing. Audio communicative forms are found in such platforms as audio books, television, movie soundtracks and music records.
2. Video Communication
Video refers to the recording or broadcasting of a picture or movie Video.
3. Data Communication
Data Communications refers to the transmission of this digital data between two or more computers.
Telecommunications network that allows computers to exchange data.
Components of Data Communication -
A data communication system has following components :
1. Message : It is the information or data to be communicated. consist of text, numbers, pictures, sound or video or any combination of these.
2. Sender : It is the device/computer that generates and sends that message.
3. Receiver : It is the device or computer that receives the message.
4. Medium : It is the channel or physical path through which the message is carried from sender to the receiver.
5. Protocol : It is a set of rules that govern the communication between the devices. Both sender and receiver follow same protocols to communicate with each other.
Network: A network is the group of computers connected to each-other to share the information and resources.
Types of network: There are some types of networks are as follows-
(i) LAN(Local Area Network)
(ii)MAN(Metropolitan Area Network)
(iii) WAN(Wide Area Network)
LAN: This type of Network is used to connect the computers of small geographical area(ex- an office, a building, a school etc.)
MAN:A metropolitan area network (MAN) is a network that interconnects users with computer resources in a geographic area or region larger than that covered by even a large local area network LAN. It is used to connect the computers of entire city.
A wide area network (WAN) is a telecommunications network that extends over a large geographic area for the primary purpose of computer networking.
